The Russians have once again attacked civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine with drones last night, in the northern area of the Chilia branch, near the border with Romania. One of the drones briefly entered Romanian airspace.
The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, sending a RO-ALERT message to the population in the northern part of Tulcea County at 00:43 as a precautionary measure.
It is the third time in 5 days that residents of Tulcea have been awakened by alarms in the middle of the night due to Russian attacks in Ukraine, near the border with Romania. It also happened on Monday night to Tuesday and then Tuesday to Wednesday.
MoD specifies that last night, the anti-aircraft defense systems monitored two aerial targets that were evolving near the border, one of which briefly penetrated Romanian airspace.
Radar contact with it was lost approximately 16 kilometers southeast of Chilia Veche, above an uninhabited area.
The air alert ceased at 02:48, and a team from the Ministry of Defense is scheduled to move to the area for a reconnaissance mission during the morning.
The MoD strongly condemns these actions by the Russian Federation, considering them a serious violation of international law norms and a risk to regional security.
Yesterday, Russia launched the bloodiest attack on Ukraine this year, resulting in at least 17 deaths and over 100 injured.
The MoD also states that it remains in constant coordination with allied and national structures, monitoring the situation in the border area and being prepared to take measures to protect Romania's territory and population. Citizens are urged to follow the recommendations of the authorities and to follow official updates.
