Panic in Tulcea in the middle of the night: RO-Alert issued and F-16s scrambled after drone attacks near the border, MoD confirms fragments fell in Romania

Russian forces launched a new series of drone attacks on civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine near the border with Romania, in Tulcea County, on Monday night, according to MoD.

In response to the attack, two Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft, on Air Policing duty, took off around 01:40 from the 86th Air Base in Fetești to monitor the aerial situation.

Romanian authorities activated population alert systems. The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, and at 01:55 a RO-Alert message was sent to residents in the northern part of Tulcea County.

Following the attack, reports of aerial vehicle elements falling on Romanian territory in the Plauru area have been confirmed. After the end of the aerial alert around 03:00, intervention teams began field checks, but the exact impact area has not been identified so far.

Searches continue throughout the morning as visibility conditions improve.

The Ministry of Defense stated that it has been providing real-time updates to allied structures on the situation and maintains constant communication with them.
