Goodbye Nicu Covaci! Those who wish to bid farewell are not allowed to bring candles

The lifeless body of Nicu Covaci, leader of Phoenix music band, will be laid to rest at the Banat Philharmonic in Timișoara on Tuesday and Wednesday, and fans are invited to bid farewell to the artist, but are advised not to bring candles, only a flower.

Representatives of the Banat Philharmonic stated that Nicu Covaci’s burial will follow the Christian Orthodox tradition, but the artist’s close ones have not made an official announcement in this regard.

"The Banat Philharmonic in Timișoara is supporting the members of the Phoenix band, at whose request they are providing the foyer on the upper floor for the placement of the catafalque with the body of Nicolae Covaci. Thus, all those who have loved and appreciated the leader of the legendary rock band will have the opportunity to bid farewell, according to the following schedule:

  • Tuesday, August 6, 2024, between 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM,
  • Wednesday, August 7, 2024, between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM," the representatives of the Timișoara Philharmonic announced.

Those who wish to pay their last respects to Nicu Covaci are asked to follow certain rules.

"Those who wish to pay their last respects to the leader of the Phoenix band are asked to follow the instructions regarding the visitation route of the catafalque.

For a smooth visitation process, the flow of visitors will be approximately 100 people per hour.

We inform those who come to see Nicu Covaci for the last time that bringing candles and wreaths is not allowed, a flower being a sufficient symbolic gesture," stated the cited source.

Additionally, according to the representatives of the Banat Philharmonic, Nicu Covaci's burial will follow the Christian Orthodox tradition, and the ceremony will be private.

Initially, close friends of the Phoenix band leader, Nicu Covaci, who passed away on Friday evening at the Timiș County Hospital, stated that his body was to be cremated.

Phoenix: The Story

The Timiș County Council is organizing an event in memory of Nicu Covaci on Tuesday evening, where the film "Phoenix: The Story," directed by Cristian Radu Nema, will be screened.

Entry is free.

"The event, remarkable for its emotional and cultural significance, will take place on Tuesday, August 6, at 8:30 PM, in the Multifunctional Hall within the Timișoara Administrative Palace," stated the Timiș County Council in a press release.

All members who gave birth to and sustained this cultural phenomenon, from its beginnings until today, are expected at the event.

"Throughout the screening of the film, participants will rediscover the key moments in the career of the Phoenix band, as well as the impact Nicu Covaci had on Romanian music and culture.

The documentary captures the essence of a life dedicated to creativity and freedom, offering an emotional testimony of a journey full of challenges and remarkable achievements.

The event is open to the general public, and we hope to bring together fans of the band from all generations to commemorate together the life and work of Nicu Covaci," stated the representatives of the Timiș County Council.
