For a long time, regarding the Kremlin’s interference rationale in Romania, something didn’t add up. Agents of influence created by the country’s secret services in different historical periods and for various purposes, such as Călin Georgescu, George Simion, Sebastian Ghiță, and many others, have ended up in Russia’s embrace.
Simply put, as if an unseen button had been pressed, the respective agent switched from the initial, likely legitimate objectives requested by political decision-makers to those imposed by Moscow.
Sebastian Ghiță, an SRI creation, shifts towards Russia’s agenda starting from December 2016 when he flees to Serbia.
Călin Georgescu, an SIE creation, during the Caraman period, begins to strongly promote Russia's interests in Romania from 2008, after the NATO Summit in Bucharest, with a crescendo from 2014 when he announces meetings with Aleksandr Dugin.
George Simion, most likely a DGPI creation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs intelligence service, begins to promote Russia's interests around 2012 when he leads the unionist association "Acțiunea 2012," organizing several protests and marches in Chișinău.
Three characters recruited and promoted by three different agencies eventually turn against Romania and serve the interests of its biggest enemy.
All along, something didn't add up. No matter how much the operations of the FSB or GRU, Russia's main intelligence agencies, are analyzed, although they are extremely powerful and influential, they do not have sufficient capacity to coordinate such a detailed plan in a foreign territory.
Instead, the sensational results regarding the diversion of agents from Romania are based on a consolidated mechanism, operating unnoticed in the background like a computer virus, a program, or multiple ones, hidden, through which the informational resources from here reach the Kremlin and are used at the opportune moment.
We Have a Boy
On September 2, in an article published by Hotnews, related to the Pahonțu case and his involvement in suppressing protesters in December 1989 and during the Mineriad in June 1990, Vasile Blaga, former Minister of Interior, claims that in 2005, he "recommended" Lucian Pahonțu to President Traian Băsescu for the position of SPP chief because, attention, he was "proposed by structures."
By an influential person from an intelligence agency in Romania. The term "structures" cannot be explained otherwise.
The above example is relevant as it indicates the way in which intelligence services promote an individual to positions of responsibility.
This is also confirmed by a statement from Traian Băsescu: "...this man (note: Călin Georgescu) was in my office when I was looking for a Prime Minister (note: in 2008). He was recommended to me by someone. I can't say who because it would mean discussing too much about what was in a president's office, and that's not done, but this man was there. He didn't become Prime Minister because after the discussion with him in my office, I reached the same conclusions I'm telling you now. That he is a charlatan..."
Once again, we have a name pushed into the political decision-making sphere by someone from the depths of the Romanian state, most likely an intelligence agency.
The Great Penetration
A few days ago, an experienced individual who knows how the Romanian state functions told me that Russia does not make significant efforts to recruit agents of influence created by Romanian services simply because the national secret services are deeply penetrated by the Kremlin to an unimaginable depth, and since the fall of the Ceaușescu regime, there has never been the political will to truly clean up Romania's intelligence and security system.
In other words, almost everything devised in the realm of defense and national security in the country ends up, through those who continue to work in the system or are connected to it, in Moscow.
This is one of the reasons why our country, at least post-1990, has not evolved institutionally and democratically except for the short period of 1995-2005 when the Soviet Union had collapsed, and Russia was very weak.
Since then, all major projects, from energy independence, strategic investments, evolution within the European Union and NATO, have either been blocked or developed at an astonishingly slow pace.
George Simion Has a New Mission - SAFE
"...the SAFE program is also full of corruption allegations. From this perspective, I announce that today, at the National Anticorruption Directorate, AUR will file a complaint, a denunciation, regarding possible acts of corruption and I warn once again that those involved in potential corruption should not proceed further with them...," stated George Simion, president of AUR, on September 2, in a press conference held at the Parliament.
Through the SAFE program, Romania will receive an allocation of nearly 17 billion euros from the European Commission, the second largest in the EU, for defense and infrastructure, the most significant investment in the country's defense capacity since 1990.
The country traitors from AUR are attempting an economic sabotage against the defense industry. If Putin were to write his wish list for Romania, it would look something like this: don't strengthen the Army, don't restart the arms factories, don't produce ammunition and military equipment here, in Romania. Let's be weak and block European investments in defense. Guess what? AUR ticks all the boxes. George Simion's party went to the DNA in a desperate attempt to block the SAFE program.

George Simion, as per the statement above, is very upset about this program, attacking it at DNA after challenging it at the Constitutional Court.
In a bizarre scenario, let's consider that the profound unrest of the AUR leader regarding how European citizens' money will be spent in Romania is justified.
But in February 2025, 37 senators and 110 deputies from AUR, SOS, and POT filed two complaints with the Constitutional Court against the Drone Law, which allowed the Romanian army and NATO forces to shoot down unmanned aircraft violating Romania's territory, airspace, and waters.
"...the army will no longer be subject to the will of the Romanian people but to the will of other peoples, whose citizens are the commanders of allied military forces or the allied military authorities...," states the complaint filed by pro-Russian extremists in the Romanian Parliament.
If the CCR judges had accepted such a request and declared the law unconstitutional, it would have been equivalent to Romania formally exiting NATO, as per the quote above.
The Kremlin's Army in Romania, the Priests, and Reservists
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, our country has been going through the most powerful and profound crisis of intelligence services. The fact that post-1990 they were created by KGB agents, namely Mihai Caraman, or controlled by KGB, Brucan, Iliescu, Virgil Măgureanu, meant the salvation of all Soviet networks operating in Romania during the Cold War, as well as their consolidation after Ceaușescu's fall and the emergence of a new political regime subservient to the Kremlin, which seized all resources.
Joining NATO and the European Union, although there were obligations to reform the SRI, SIE, DGIA, and others, was merely a formality; many employees were already recruited or part of local intelligence and influence networks controlled by the Kremlin.
Moreover, officers placed in reserve, likely compromised during the NATO accession process, did not go anywhere; they kept their ties with those remaining in the system, were helped to thrive, associate, and attack, each with their capabilities, the democratic political regimes and defense, development, and modernization projects of the country.
Thus, a critical mass of reservists was created, heavily used in 2024 to bring Călin Georgescu to power. Thus, the vast network of priests, created by the former Securitate for gathering information, which is now pro-Russia, was formed.
What happened in 2024 was just the culmination of a series of events affecting Romania for over three decades at all levels of action and decision-making.
If we look around today, we see a state riddled with Kremlin's interests, unable to defend itself against Călin Georgescu, who continues his campaign unhindered, despite leading a conspiracy aiming to change the constitutional order.
Horatiu Potra, another Kremlin infiltrator, is doing well, even though he has created an army of mercenaries from reservists and active military personnel, exported abroad, then used to support Georgescu.
The Devil and Russia
The factory of Russian agents is not in Moscow or St. Petersburg but here, in Romania, in the offices of local intelligence services, shielded from any citizen control, without civilian bosses or with compromised directors.
In most cases, Putin does not send funds to support Russia's influence networks in Romania; instead, Romanian taxpayers' money is used, drained through various agencies and public companies, corrupt commercial contracts, and the promotion of dubious financial schemes.
This profound crisis, threatening the existence of the Romanian state, cannot be resolved by Nicușor Dan, quickly taken prisoner by network individuals, nor by Grindeanu, Bolojan, Fritz, or Hunor.
It can be solved in one way: through a pro-European and North-Atlantic parliamentary majority, one that is aware of the danger, willing to take it on, and to inform citizens about it, by forming a political and social platform with the aim of regaining Romania's independence from Russia.
After September 1944, following the recognition of defeat against the USSR, Romania has not been independent from Moscow for a single day.
In the movie "The Usual Suspects", released in 1995, there is a famous line spoken by the character portrayed by Kevin Spacey: "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."
If you look around, you will quickly discover the Kremlin's messengers in Romania, who, every time the cruelty, violence, and madness of Moscow are brought up, will say: "...and Russia...", only to then launch into a discourse downplaying the Kremlin's propaganda, interference, and crimes. The devil and Russia's attack do not exist.
