AUR candidate in the presidential elections, George Simion, stated that if elected as President of Romania, he wants to visit both Kiev and Chernivtsi, with the first visit being to the capital of Moldova, Chisinau.
Simion makes these statements despite being banned from entering both the territory of the Republic of Moldova and that of Ukraine.
"It is in the interest of Ukraine and Moldova for the President of Romania to go and have good relations. From my point of view, I am completely open and with all my love, I will go, not only to Kiev but also to Chernivtsi. And I intend to make the first visit to Chisinau, but I understand that I have a court date on the first day after the second round.
It reminds me of how Liviu Dragnea received the final sentence after the European Parliament elections in 2019. Considering that the interest is on the part of our neighbors to have good relations with a larger country, a stronger country, part of the European Union and NATO, I believe that things will be settled, they will normalize," stated George Simion on Tuesday in an interview with Digi24.
When asked what would happen if he were elected President of Romania and the two neighboring states maintain their bans concerning him, Simion replied, "It's their business, it's their choice."
"Over time, Moldova has always had hostile attitudes towards us through various presidents, Vladimir Voronin, Igor Dodon, and so on. This is not the case with Ms. Maia Sandu, who also holds Romanian citizenship and whom I am convinced will want a good, very good relationship with Romania.
And I would also like the same with Moldova, especially since there are elections in September there, and we are in great danger that forces, this time truly pro-Russian, speaking Russian, will seize power and once again have an anti-Romanian state at our eastern border," added the AUR candidate.
A court in Chisinau will discuss on May 19, one day after the second round of the presidential elections in Romania, the request in which AUR leader George Simion seeks the annulment of the entry ban into Moldova.
Simion, who won decisively in the first round of the presidential elections, also has a ban on entering Ukraine.
The hearings in the case "Simion George-Nicolae versus the General Inspectorate for Migration" will take place at the Chisinau Court, Râşcani headquarters, on May 19, at 14:30, according to an announcement published on the national portal of the courts in Moldova.
The court will examine the request of politician George Simion to lift the entry ban into the country, which has been in place since 2015 against him.
