The helmet from Coțofenești and the Dacian bracelets return to Romania: when they can be seen at the National History Museum

The Romanian Government has announced the repatriation of the helmet from Coțofenești and the two recovered Dacian bracelets, artifacts of exceptional value for the national heritage. This is the first official confirmation of the pieces returning to the country after being recovered following the theft from the museum in Drents, Netherlands.

The Government describes the moment as one of „great joy,” emphasizing not only the historical importance of the objects but also the symbolic significance of their return to Romania.

The repatriation is also presented as a result of cooperation between Romanian authorities and those abroad, following a complex investigation triggered by the theft.

### Will be available for public viewing starting April 21

For the first time since returning to the country, the helmet from Coțofenești and the two Dacian bracelets will be exhibited at the National Museum of Romanian History, as part of an event scheduled for April 21, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Subsequently, the artifacts will become accessible to the general public, both at the museum headquarters and in other regions of the country, through a dedicated campaign. Authorities announce that they will provide details regarding the exhibition and itinerary of these objects in the country.

### Stolen in January 2025, recovered after over a year

The helmet from Coțofenești and the three Dacian bracelets were stolen on the morning of January 25, 2025, from the Drents Museum in the Netherlands, following a spectacular robbery where the thieves used explosives to break the display cases.

The recovery was announced on April 2, 2026, over a year after the theft, following a complex international investigation that led to the finding of the helmet and two of the three bracelets, with the third one still missing.

The Romanian state received compensation of 5.85 million euros for the four heritage objects stolen from a museum in the Netherlands. These funds will be returned once specialized expertise confirms the conservation status of the objects.

The helmet from Coțofenești and the Dacian bracelets are considered some of the most valuable artifacts of the Dacian civilization, bearing „essential fragments from our past and cultural memory,” as highlighted by the Government.
