China warns countries not to enter into trade agreements with the United States that may affect its interests and threatens resolute and reciprocal countermeasures.
China’s warning comes amid escalating trade tensions with the US. China urged those involved in negotiations on Monday not to conclude economic agreements with the United States on behalf of their countries that could affect Chinese interests, Reuters reports.
Beijing will strongly oppose any party that enters into an agreement at China's expense and "will take resolute and reciprocal countermeasures," the Ministry of Commerce announced.
The Ministry responded to a Bloomberg report, according to which the Trump administration is preparing to pressure nations seeking tariff reductions or exemptions from the US to limit their trade with China.
President Donald Trump has suspended the tariffs he announced on April 2, except those targeting China. Washington has raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 145%, prompting Beijing to impose 125% tariffs on American goods.
Last week, China signaled that its own general tariffs will no longer increase.
