EURO 2024: Germany secures the top spot in Group A with a draw against Switzerland in extra time

Germany and Switzerland ended in a draw, with a score of 1-1 in the last round of the group stage, in Group A, with the Germans saving the first place in the end of this initial phase of the competition at their home.

The goals were scored by Ndoye in the 30th minute and by Fullkrug, the star of Borussia Dortmund, in the 91st minute.

The first half in Frankfurt, the stadium where Romania will also play the decisive match against Slovakia in a few days, exactly on Wednesday, May 19 at 7 p.m., ended with a surprising score, although Germany was the one to open the scoring. Andrich scored with a deceptive long-range shot in the 17th minute, Sommer made a mistake like a child, but in the previous play, the captain Musiala committed a foul in the attack, and the referee Orsato saw this during the VAR review.

The Swiss knew how to be pragmatic and scored in the 30th minute through the young Ndoye, a cross from the left flank by Freuler, a perfect finish from the small box, the play was suspected of offside, but after the same VAR review, things calmed down and the Cantons' Country took the top spot in the host country's group.

Switzerland could have extended their lead to 2-0 even towards the end of the match, through the same Ndoye, but here VAR intervened against the Swiss national team.

But since the Germans are only defeated when you see them leaving the team bus, Germany equalized in the extra minutes, a perfect header by Fullkrug, who was brought in by Nagelsmann towards the end, a superb cross on his head by Raum, who was also a late substitute.

Germany finishes in first place in the group, with 7 points, followed by Switzerland with 5, both set to advance to the knockout stage, with the Germans scheduled to play on June 29 in Dortmund against the 2nd place team from Group C. The Swiss will face on the same day, but in Berlin, most likely against Italy, the 2nd place team from Group B.
