The popularity of American President Donald Trump has dropped to 37%, amid increasing dissatisfaction regarding the economy and the handling of the war with Iran, as shown by an NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll.
This level is also confirmed by other polls, indicating an approval rate of around 38%, with no signs of recovery.
Economy, the main vulnerability
Only 32% of Americans approve of how Trump is managing inflation and the cost of living, down from about 40% a year ago, according to the survey cited by CNN. Nearly half of the respondents strongly disapprove of his economic policies, as rising prices remain a major concern.
The economy is the main concern for 29% of Americans, surpassing other sensitive issues, such as threats to democracy, mentioned by 24% of respondents.
Disapproval grows amid the war with Iran
At the same time, almost two-thirds of Americans disapprove of how Trump is handling the conflict with Iran, with 54% expressing strong opposition. The survey was conducted even during the period when the White House leader announced a temporary ceasefire, but with no visible impact on public perception.
The data also show a clear reluctance towards escalation: 61% of Americans say the US should not take new military actions against Iran. Only 16% support continuing airstrikes, while 23% believe that other options should be considered, including sending troops.
The NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll was conducted online on a sample of 32,433 adults in the US, with a margin of error of ±1.8 percentage points.
