Germany remains Romania’s most important trading partner and the main foreign investor, said Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu on Tuesday after meeting with her German counterpart, Johann David Wadephul, who was visiting Bucharest.
„Germany is Romania’s top trading partner and the leading investor. We have over 18 billion euros invested in numerous top sectors. Together, we create well-paid jobs and competitive businesses that bring value to the entire European market,” Ţoiu emphasized at the joint press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters.
Romania's chief diplomat mentioned that the official visit of the German official marks 145 years of diplomatic relations between the two states. She also recalled the signing, over three decades ago, of the bilateral treaty on friendly cooperation and partnership in Europe. "Recently, on the sidelines of President Nicușor Dan's visit to Berlin, a joint action plan was signed to deepen bilateral cooperation," Oana Țoiu specified.
Romanian and German communities, "a vital link"
The Romanian minister emphasized the role of the communities from the two countries in strengthening bilateral relations.
"A vital link between our countries and societies is represented by both the Romanian community in Germany - strong, well-integrated, and increasingly entrepreneurial - and the German minority in Romania, which holds a special and very important place for us," Ţoiu stated.
The discussions between the two ministers also focused on expanding collaboration in tourism, against the backdrop of growing demand from both sides.
Oana Ţoiu also thanked Germany for the support provided to Romania in the process of joining the OECD, as well as for its involvement in regional security. "I thank you for the support in ensuring the safety of our airspace and border protection. I particularly appreciate the common projects and the strong friendship between our countries," the Romanian minister stated.
