Kelemen Hunor: We want to be part of the Executive. What political calculations is the UDMR leader making for a future governance

The president of UDMR, former deputy prime minister Kelemen Hunor, says that the party he leads wants to enter the Executive.

He says that the „legitimate” intention of any political leader is to access governance. Kelemen does not exclude the possibility of USR governing alongside PSD.

"Any political formation, any political party, that's how we are too, we say yes, we want to be part of the Executive. There will be a coalition, not a single party governing in Romania and that's good, but we cannot decide, at this table, whether we will enter or not. The intention is correct, it is a legitimate intention of every political leader, and the electorate decides, the people decide," said the president of UDMR, Tuesday evening, in a show on B1 TV.

He says that "there are not too many options" for governance, especially since both PSD, PNL, and USR exclude governing alongside AUR.

"We can do the math: the first option is Marcel and Nicu continuing. Now they are upset, now the love has melted a bit, but after the elections, the game resets and they continue, they have a majority and then Elena Lasconi and I stay in opposition.

There is another possibility, PSD loses the elections and then the Right comes. This means that Elena Lasconi or Mr. Ciucă will win. And then a center-right coalition is formed. If I look at the polls, Mr. Ciucă still has ground to cover, but there is also Geoană. PSD says it will not govern with AUR, PNL says it will not govern with AUR, USR says it will not govern with AUR, so these are the formulas: PSD-PNL, eventually if they need someone because they don't have a stable majority, then our party or USR could be invited.

Or USR-PNL-UDMR or PSD-USR, why not? Let's not rule it out. After the elections, things will change. I allow myself to consider all possibilities, as I have nothing to lose in the end," says the UDMR leader.
