Turkish investors and a foreign coach for a Superliga team

A club from the Romanian Superliga has been bought by foreign investors who plan to bring in a foreign coach.

This concerns Petrolul Ploiești, which has been looking for wealthy individuals willing to invest in the team at „Ilie Oană” for quite some time.

Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu announced on Tuesday evening that Turkish investors Serhan Cetinsaya and Sertac Guven have acquired Petrolul. Additionally, gsp.ro reports that the Turks intend to bring in former footballer Mehmet Topal as the coach.

Furthermore, it seems that before agreeing to sell the club, the Petrolul executives demanded two million euros in guarantees from the Turks. The investors' response was that they would present them without any issues.

Mehmet Topal was set to be Jose Mourinho's assistant at Fenerbahce, but Serhan Cetinsaya and Sertac Guven convinced him to say "yes" to the project at Petrolul. Despite lacking experience as a coach, this did not hinder the Turks from choosing Topal.

Another option could be Italian Mauro Camoranesi (47 years old), a former World Cup champion with Italy, as reported by Fanatik. Unlike Topal, Camoranesi has already coached several teams: Coras de Tepic, Tigre, Tapachula, Tabor Sezana, Maribor, and Floriana.

Petrolul Ploiești has not won the championship title since 1965, and in the recently concluded season, they finished in 11th place in the Superliga.
