Sorana Cîrstea has withdrawn from Roland Garros

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea announced on social media that she has to withdraw from Roland Garros due to medical issues.

In what could be Sorana Cîrstea’s last season as a professional tennis player (35 years old, 164 WTA), the Romanian player would have faced a tough first match at the Roland Garros tournament.

She was supposed to meet German player Tamara Korpatsch (30 years old, 148 WTA), who won the 2023 WTA tournament in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania Open.

In an Instagram post, Sorana wrote today: "Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from Roland Garros due to an ankle injury I've been dealing with for the past few weeks. I tried everything possible to be fit to play at Roland Garros. But my body is not ready. I want to thank the organizers in France for their help, I am very sad to miss this tournament. I hope to be back on the court and be 100% ready for the grass season," Sorana wrote on social media.

Cîrstea trained on the Parisian clay alongside coach Sven Groeneveld and physical trainer Andrei Cristofor.
