Cristina Neagu has announced which will be the last match she will play.
The handball player will organize on June 8, starting at 4:00 PM, the Neagu Gala, where she will retire at the Polyvalent Hall.
"I thought I wouldn't have a retirement. I want to go back to the beginnings of my career when 30-year-old players would tell me that I am annoyingly young. And I thought I still had a lot to play. I don't know if time has passed quickly, but it has passed usefully.
I am facing the conclusion of the most important chapter, handball, after 25 years and thousands of matches and hours. It's time to say stop. But on June 8, I don't want it to be a farewell, but a celebration. I want to enjoy it together with my former teammates and celebrate alongside the fans. It will be a special day.
I don't know how I will feel then. Probably on that day, I will be overwhelmed by emotions. I try to focus on what I have to do, I still have 4 official matches to play. And on June 8, we want it to be a handball celebration and to enjoy it with the fans. I don't know what I will do. Probably a well-deserved break. I don't know how long. Right now, I don't see a continuation in sports, but maybe after a break, I will change my mind," Neagu stated for DigiSport.
Cristina Neagu retired from the Romanian national team at the end of 2023.
She has won the title of the best female handball player in the world four times.
HC Activ Ploieşti, Rulmentul Braşov, Oltchim Rm. Vâlcea, ZRK Buducnost Podgorica, and CSM Bucharest are the teams where Cristina Neagu has played in her career.
