Carlos Alcaraz won the Roland Garros Grand Slam tournament after a dramatic final, decided in five sets, played against his great rival, Alexander Zverev.
Seeded number 3 and 4, Alcaraz and Zverev displayed a tennis of rare spectacularity, intertwined with moments of crazy drama, the final score being 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, after 4 hours and 18 minutes.
After a perfect start for Alcaraz, the German Zverev managed to break the rhythm and seem to turn the fate of the game, winning two consecutive sets, the last of which after a fabulous comeback from 2-5.
From that moment on, it seemed like the thread had broken, and Zverev suffered the most physically, after over 4 hours of fierce battle. Alcaraz easily won the 4th set, and the deciding set, although starting well for the Iberian, ended thrillingly, with Zverev being able to turn the decisive break at 2-3.
This is Alcaraz's third Grand Slam title, having previously won the US Open in 2022 and Wimbledon in 2023.
For Zverev, it is the second lost Grand Slam final, after the one at the US Open 2020, against Dominic Thiem, even though he had won the first 2 sets then.
Spain triumphs again on the Philippe Chatrier arena after an exceptional period signed by Rafa Nadal, who has 14 titles here in Paris.
Starting Monday, Alcaraz climbs to 2nd place in the ATP world rankings, below Jannick Sinner, whom he defeated in the semifinals, but above Novak Djokovic.
