AUR leader George Simion announces that he is in Brussels to fight for Romania. More specifically, Simion claims that EcoFin will stop European funds for Romania in June due to irresponsible governments, and he will try to prevent this.
„Today I am in Brussels. Due to irresponsible governments, EcoFin will stop European funds for us in June. Today my focus will be on restarting discussions so that this unfair decision does not apply! We fight for Romania,” wrote Simion on Facebook.
Nicușor Dan: Lies like a Russian newspaper
In response, Nicușor Dan states that George Simion "lies like a Russian newspaper" because there is no decision or procedure to suspend European funds for Romania.
"My opponent lies like a Russian newspaper. There is no decision or procedure to suspend European funds for Romania, which he is 'saving' us from today in Brussels, where he fled from debating with me.
Another completely irresponsible statement after the one regarding the Visa Waiver, or that of his colleague from AUR, about the nationalization of Romanians' houses in the diaspora.
We are witnessing another deception after the one with the 35,000 euro houses, "round two back," the reduction of half a million public sector employees, and many others," Nicușor Dan wrote on Facebook.
The danger is actually Simion
AUR leader declares himself as the savior of Romania, but numerous economists and European officials have warned of the risk posed by a presidency of George Simion for the Romanian economy due to repeated attacks on the EU.
In fact, the effects were immediately felt after the first round of the presidential elections, won by AUR leader George Simion, when the leu depreciated significantly against the European currency.
Until Thursday, we had three days of negative records, with a maximum level of 5.1222 lei, after Wednesday when the euro was quoted at 5.0991 lei, Tuesday at 5.0378 lei, and Monday at 4.9775 lei.
Shortly after the announcement of the results of the first round of the presidential elections, nervousness set in at the stock exchange, with the shares of several Romanian listed companies rapidly decreasing.
An anti-European president means poverty
Siegfried Mureșan, chief negotiator of the European Parliament regarding the future multiannual EU budget, recently stated in an interview with Spotmedia that an anti-European president of Romania will isolate us, and isolation means poverty.
He cited Viktor Orban as an example, who violates European rules, breaks European laws, and "this means that the European Union no longer has the legal possibility to grant European funds to Hungary."
Siegfried Mureșan emphasized that the European Union is monitoring the situation in Romania, but the decision will be made by the Romanian people.
"It is essential for Romania to remain pro-European. An anti-European government means questioning the entire European support. Not because that's what the European Union wants, but because that's how the laws and rules are in Europe. If we violate them, the European Union will no longer be able to pay us in the future the European funds it currently pays. I think this is a scenario we must avoid at all costs," said Siegfried Mureșan.
What does a Simion presidency mean? Halting European funding
Adrian Codîrlașu, a financial expert, President of CFA Romania, stated in a discussion with Spotmedia that the main immediate danger of entering an extremist-populist zone is the halt of European funding, with consequences for ongoing investments.
He highlighted that the major issue of having an anti-European leader at the Cotroceni Palace is the deadlock that will arise between Bucharest and Brussels, resulting in a rapid and drastic reduction in funding from EU programs, with major effects on the Romanian economy.
"If the president goes to the European Union and constantly opposes, as we have seen in the case of Hungary, we can end up with the cutting of European funds," he warns. Therefore, the pro-European orientation of the president is a key factor for economic stability.
Simion's Prime Minister wants a referendum for exiting the EU and NATO
In March, Călin Georgescu, whom Simion wants as Prime Minister, stated that Romania is a slave to the EU, and NATO aims to push us into a war with Moscow.
Georgescu said that a referendum should be organized to prove that Romanians do not want to be part of the EU and NATO.
This despite the most recent Eurobarometer published by the European Commission in November showing that 70% of respondents in Romania believe that our country has benefited from EU membership, and 7 out of 10 Romanians are optimistic about the future of the EU.
