The eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit is suspected of committing 23 crimes, including three rapes, announced the Norwegian police on Friday at the conclusion of the investigation involving him, opened 10 months ago, reports AFP.
The investigation is now in the hands of the prosecutor’s office, which will have to decide whether to charge Marius Hoiby or not, stated the police attorney, Andreas Kruszweski, at a press conference.
Marius Borg Hoiby, born from a previous relationship before his mother's marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, is the subject of an investigation since his arrest on August 4, 2024, being suspected of assaulting his partner.
These acts have triggered a series of other revelations and complaints from several victims.
The Crown Princess's eldest son, 28 years old, is suspected especially of "one rape with penetration" and "two rapes without penetration," as specified by the police.
According to Norwegian law, the notion of rape includes sexual acts without penetration, committed in situations where the victim cannot resist - as it seems to have been the case.
Hoiby's lawyer, Ellen Holager Andenaes, stated to the NTB news agency that the princess's son denies the rape allegations.
Marius Hoiby is also suspected of criminal sexual behavior, mistreatment in a close relationship, physical integrity violations, as well as intentional damage, threats, and traffic offenses, the police further specified.
Hoiby spent a week in detention in November 2024, after a second rape suspicion emerged during the investigation.
