Nicușor Dan explains TV-free home, absence from Mircea Lucescu’s funeral and plans regarding official residence move

President Nicușor Dan explained that he does not have a television at home for reasons related to his children’s education, stating that they have limited access to screens and only occasionally watch movies on the computer.

The head of state also stated that he is considering a possible move of the family to an official residence during the summer, for the children’s vacation, but he ruled out Vila Lac, which he considers too isolated, mentioning that he would prefer a residence in a neighborhood.

At the same time, Nicușor Dan explained that he did not attend Mircea Lucescu's funeral to avoid politicizing the moment, stating that it was an emotional event and he wanted to stay out of any political interpretation.

Here are his statements from Thursday evening, at Europa FM:

    • Why didn't you attend Mircea Lucescu's funeral? I was impressed by the harmony that this unfortunate event sparked in the football world. I mean, I saw people whom I haven't seen in a long time, well, with this passion for following the sports area (..) I think it was an emotional moment, all those days when the coffin was at the National Arena and I didn't want to bring it into a political area with a possible presence of mine.
    • The fact that people were extraordinarily decent with the family, that's a good thing for Romania. And when good things happen, we need to acknowledge them
    • Asked if he watches football matches: Mostly the comments. I am more interested in the reactions after the match. I don't have a TV at home because of the children, so they don't watch
    • So, your children don't watch TV at all? They are allowed to watch some movies on the computer occasionally. The girl watches about 2 hours a week, and the boy almost never. It's good to listen to what doctors and specialists say
    • Asked if he will move to a state protocol villa with his family: We are still discussing this. Maybe this summer, when it's the children's vacation and it's easier for them
    • Is Vila Lac an option? No, it's too isolated there and I don't think it's good for the children to be alone in a villa like that. But somewhere in a neighborhood, maybe
