FCSB has dominantly ruled the 2023/2024 Liga 1 season, managing to clinch the championship title on Saturday evening with three rounds to go, after a 2-1 victory over Farul.
The red and blue team left no room for interpretations and crushed any competition this season, currently holding a 14-point lead with three rounds remaining.
The press from the neighboring country, Hungary, also reported on the success of the red and blue team, highlighting an interesting statistical detail. Additionally, Nemzeti Sport stated that FCSB is one of the potential opponents for Ferencvaros in the Champions League preliminaries, and this could happen as early as the second preliminary round.
The Hungarian journalists also mentioned that, according to Romanian court decisions, this is only the sixth title for FCSB: "With four rounds to go in the championship, FCSB was crowned champion in Romania. The team from Bucharest secured the title after a 2-1 victory against Farul and won the domestic competition after a nine-year hiatus. The winning goal was scored by Alexandru Băluță, who arrived from Puskas AFC last summer. The Bucharest club, which considers itself the successor of the former European Cup winner, but officially exists only since 2003 according to the judiciary, was able to triumph for the first time since the introduction of the play-off system."
According to this case, FCSB became champion for only the sixth time, while fans also include the previous trophies from the military team. However, since the play-off system was introduced in the 2015/16 season, no team has managed to win the championship this early. In the last eight editions, the triumph was either in the penultimate round or in the final," noted the Hungarian journalists.
FCSB will compete in the Champions League preliminaries, but in order to reach the group stage, they must surpass 4 teams, and they are only guaranteed as a seeded team in one round, the first one.
