Designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan says that the investiture vote will show whether PSD is a pro-European party or just the junior partner of AUR. At the same time, he believes that the governance proposals presented by the social democrats provide a basis for discussions with PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu.
„PSD claims to be a pro-European party, but again, don’t ask me now to support the idea that Emergency Ordinance 13 was a pro-European initiative, for example. The pro-European character of a politician and a party is always proven through action, not through statements,” Mureșan stated on Wednesday in Parliament, according to News.ro.
The designated Prime Minister criticized the collaboration between PSD and AUR in recent months and stated that the social democrats can correct this choice through the vote for the Government. "We will know if we can call PSD a pro-European party or if we will only be able to call PSD the junior partner of the anti-European party called AUR," he affirmed.
Meanwhile, Grindeanu asks Siegfried Mureșan to announce his resignation from the European Parliament.
What he says about the ten proposals of PSD
Regarding negotiations, Mureșan's tone was more open. When asked about the ten proposals that PSD wants to see in the governance program, he said that some are formulated in general terms, while others are already included in the PNL program.
"The Decalogue presented by the Social Democratic Party does not contradict the governance plan that we will present in some areas," Mureșan stated, as quoted by Agerpres. He added that the proposals provide him and Grindeanu with the basis for "a serious discussion" in which to compare concrete measures.
Grindeanu stated on Monday that he is willing to discuss with the designated Prime Minister if he considers the ten recommendations adopted by PSD.
Appeal to PSD parliamentarians and warning about snap elections
Mureșan said that he will discuss with PSD as a party, but that each parliamentarian must be able to vote according to their own conscience, even if the decision of the social-democratic leadership is not to support the Cabinet.
"Myself, being a parliamentarian for 12 years, I believe that parliamentarians must be free to vote according to their own conscience," stated the designated Prime Minister, according to News.ro. He presented his program as one that will simplify the state and reduce sinecures and waste.
Mureșan also mentioned the possibility of snap elections if the Government does not receive the Parliament's vote. "I wouldn't like to be a PSD parliamentarian and find out from the television that the Parliament has been dissolved and that I will have to go into an electoral campaign where most likely I will not be reelected," he said.
