The European Parliament has validated Roxana Mînzatu as Vice-President of the European Commission with a „relevant portfolio” as European Commissioner, announced Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Wednesday.
„The European Parliament has validated Ms. Roxana Mînzatu as Vice-President of the European Commission with a relevant portfolio as European Commissioner. It is yet another important step for raising the profile of our country within the European Union,” Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.
He added that unfortunately, "some in the country" have forgotten that in Brussels, we are all Romanians, "that we must strive for Romania regardless of ideology," and have tried to block this candidacy "for personal political campaign calculations."
"Roxana is an outstanding professional and will bring honor to Romania! Congratulations and best of luck!" Ciolacu said.
All European Commissioners are approved
The European Parliament agreed on Wednesday to approve all seven nominees for the position of European Commissioner, ending weeks of blockages and political negotiations within the EU regarding the composition of the future Commission, said four officials from the Parliament to POLITICO, as reported by Mediafax.
The dispute mainly took place between the European People's Party (EPP) and the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), who contested the selection of candidates such as Raffaele Fitto from Italy and Teresa Ribera from Spain.
The approval allows the new European Commission to officially assume its duties on December 1, 2024.
