The Dacia Automobile Union (SAD) warns on Friday that this year there will be a decrease in production at the Mioveni plant, after more than two decades, with significant staff reductions also expected.
The union reminds that the Renault Group recently decided that the Dacia Striker model will be produced in Turkey, and the new electric model in segment A will be manufactured in Slovenia, not in Mioveni.
"The reasons are well-known: delayed infrastructure - including the Pitești-Sibiu highway, high energy costs, fiscal and political instability, as well as unpredictable economic programs. All these contribute to decreasing Romania's attractiveness for investments. The impact on Argeș County can be significant," the union's statement reads.
The Dacia plant provides approximately 10,000 direct jobs and supports tens of thousands of indirect jobs at supplier companies. Thus, any decrease in production at the Mioveni plant "ripples throughout the entire local economy."
"The year 2026 marks, after 22 years, a period of production reduction and the dismissal of approximately 1,200 employees, amid decreasing demand and the acceleration of robotization and automation processes.
Over 90% of the production at the Mioveni plant is destined for export, and the loss of models manufactured here can have serious effects on the local and national economy," the statement further mentions.
The union members underline that the automotive industry relies on long-term planning, and fiscal stability, modern infrastructure, and economic predictability are essential for retaining investments in Romania.
"Dacia Mioveni remains the main employer and one of the most important exporters in Argeș County. It is essential for this strategic industrial platform to be supported by responsible policies in order to remain a pillar of the local economy," the Dacia Automobile Union further conveys.
