Burduja assures that the prices on bills will not be higher than last winter

Gas and electricity prices will not be higher this winter compared to the previous similar period, stated the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, at the Palace of Parliament on Monday.

He specified that the compensation-capping scheme will be in effect until April 1, 2025.

"The prices (on bills - ed.) will not be higher than last winter. The compensation-capping scheme is in effect until April 1. It was important and it is important to protect Romanians because, as you know, the price of gas, as well as electricity, depends on things that are not solely within Romania's control.

It depends on the situation in the Middle East, it depends on the situation in Ukraine, it depends on Ukraine's decision to continue or not the transit of Russian gas, and so on. So, in the context of these exceptional events, the compensation-capping scheme has done its job and will continue to do so this winter," assured the minister.

According to him, a household consumer will be billed at 0.31 lei/kilowatt-hour for gas, the maximum cap, and for electricity, depending on the consumption level, with rates ranging from 0.68 lei/kilowatt-hour for a total consumption below 100 kilowatt-hours per month to 1.3 lei/kilowatt-hour for a monthly consumption of over 300 kilowatt-hours.
