Over 1.8 million bottles of beer recalled due to rust

The inspectors of the Romanian Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) have decided to withdraw from the market over 1.8 million bottles of Ciuc beer with rust on the cap or neck.

ANPC representatives stated on Monday that they conducted a comprehensive inspection in the first half of August following complaints about the presence of Ciuc beer batches with rusted caps or rusty bottle necks being sold, produced by Heineken Romania.

The four factories owned in Romania by the producer in Miercurea Ciuc, Craiova, Constanța, and Târgu Mureș, as well as their distributors, were inspected.

"The 4 identified batches were batches 152, 156, 173, and 177, totaling 1,854,180 distributed bottles.

The beer bottles with rust on the cap or neck, identified by the inspection teams, have been withdrawn from the market," stated the ANPC representatives.

ANPC fined the company 65,000 lei, ordered the withdrawal of the non-compliant products (the four batches) from the market, and requested proof of their withdrawal and destruction to be provided.

By August 16, 2024, 323,795 bottles with rust on the cap or neck have been returned from the market to the producer.

"ANPC warns consumers that if they notice rust on the cap or neck of a purchased beer bottle, regardless of the brand, they should contact the retailer to have the product replaced or receive a refund.

If the retailer refuses this process, the consumer can file a complaint with the ANPC," further specified the ANPC representatives.
