The coach of Switzerland vehemently protests after the elimination in front of Argentina: "This rule has destroyed the game"

The Swiss national team lost in extra time against the defending world champion, Argentina, with a score of 1-3, but after the match, they vehemently protested against the decision that ultimately changed the course of the game.

It was about the expulsion in the 72nd minute of Embolo, who received a second yellow card for simulation, after the referee was called to the sideline to review the VAR images.

Coach Murat Yakin contested this red card for Breel Embolo, especially for how the situation was reversed by VAR, according to a new FIFA rule.

"I know that FIFA will defend the referee, but this rule has destroyed our game today. It is incredibly painful to be eliminated in this way. Unfortunately, we have to accept it.

This team has great passion. Even with one man down, we gave our all on the field. I am extremely proud of all my players," he said, as quoted by sportal.bg.

According to the new FIFA rule, VAR must intervene if the wrong player receives a card for an action - as it happened in this case, thus applying the rule to clarify the mistaken identity.

In this context, Paredes initially received a yellow card for protests, but this card was canceled after VAR noticed Embolo's simulation in the previous phase, resulting in him receiving a second yellow card and being sent off.

"The red card changed the game! We conceded a quick goal, but then we controlled the events on the field. I don't understand how this can happen at a World Cup. I want to reiterate that my boys are true heroes," Yakin added.

Switzerland managed to reach the quarter-finals of a World Cup for the first time in 72 years, after the edition hosted by the Cantons Country in 1954.
