Bolojan reduced 147 positions in the Senate: An annual savings of 3.5 million euros. Over three years, this means a passage in a busy intersection in Bucharest

The President of the Senate, Ilie Bolojan, announces that the number of positions in the institution has been reduced from 796 positions to 649 through the correct staffing norms and the reduction of advisor positions.

He specified that all procedures related to the reduction of Senate staff have been completed following decisions adopted at the beginning of the year.

"Out of the 796 positions, 649 remain, of which 31 are vacant, reserved for individuals suspended by law. The staff reduction was achieved through correct staffing norms and the reduction of advisor positions within committees and the offices of dignitaries," he stated.

According to Bolojan, the savings in the salary fund amount to 3.5 million euros annually.

"The difference between the initially required salary fund of 93.9 million lei annually and that for the reduced positions, 76.4 million lei annually, amounts to 17.5 million lei – approximately 3.5 million euros. This is the sum that will be saved in a year as a result of this reorganization – a saving of over 18% of the salary fund.

It may not seem like a significant saving, but over three years, it could mean a flyover in a congested intersection in Bucharest, considering that the estimated value of a road overpass is 10 million euros. Think about how many of these reductions can be implemented in various institutions and calculate how many overpasses have been missed so far," he emphasized.

Bolojan added that the Senate operates well with these employees.

"I thank my colleagues in the Senate leadership and those involved in the reorganization procedures because, despite delays, changes, and discomfort caused by these procedures, they have seen them through. As observed, the Senate operates efficiently with the current staff structure.

In addition, electronic attendance registration has been implemented. I also thank the professional colleagues in the Senate who assist senators in their work, contributing daily to the institution's smooth operation," he conveyed.

In January, several Senate employees staged a spontaneous protest while the President of the Chamber, Ilie Bolojan, was making statements about the institution's reorganization measures.
