Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated on Monday evening that he does not believe that the president will be suspended, a move for which the Opposition has announced that they are collecting signatures, after Nicușor Dan spoke about initiating a referendum in the judiciary.
“The president referred to the idea of a consultation, to a referendum to see what the perception is from within. How this consultation or referendum will be conducted will be clarified by the president.
He, unlike the Government, as the President of Romania, participates in and chairs CSM meetings, so he can discuss all these topics within CSM, in such a way that different approaches can be seen,” stated Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Monday evening on Antena 3.
When asked if the president could be suspended, a move announced by the Opposition, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated: “I don't think we can reach such a point. It's one of the bluffs they make, just like the motions they made today and as they did in the past days”.
The Prime Minister believes that, given the situation Romania is in - with strong instability at the borders, significant budget deficit issues – “the stability of state institutions is an important element”.
“For example, the level of trust in Romania depends on this stability, the country's rating depends on it, meaning how much interest we pay,” the Prime Minister specified.
Bolojan's statement comes after AUR officially requested the initiation of procedures for the suspension of the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, accusing him of violating the Constitution and directly interfering with the functioning of the judiciary, following the announcement regarding organizing a referendum among magistrates.
About the Fall of the Government
Referring to stability, the Prime Minister spoke about the “news from sources” that daily announce that the Government will fall.
“We hear daily and often find out about new things that we do not know. This type of folklore, news from sources, forgive me, is one of the things that I have noticed works, but I think we need to be careful with these things and only take what truly has a foundation,” added the Prime Minister.
The Bolojan government has survived several motions of censure filed by the Opposition, the most recent one being rejected on December 15.
