Iran has concluded a confidential arms contract worth 500 million euros with Russia for the acquisition of portable launchers and advanced surface-to-air missiles.
The contract, signed in December in Moscow, commits Russia to deliver 500 Verba portable launchers and 2,500 9M336 missiles over a period of three years, according to Russian documents disclosed and reviewed by the Financial Times, as well as individuals familiar with the agreement.
Reuters notes that it was unable to verify the information.
According to the Financial Times, the contract stipulates that the deliveries will take place in three installments, from 2027 to 2029.
The contract was negotiated between the Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport and the representative of the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Logistics of the Armed Forces (MODAFL) in Moscow, the British publication further states.
Under the contract, Tehran officially requested these systems in July 2025. Last June, US forces bombed Iran's three main nuclear facilities, with the US joining Israel's military campaign against Iran.
President Donald Trump stated that these facilities were destroyed in the attack, but according to a preliminary assessment by US intelligence services at that time, the US airstrikes did not destroy Iran's nuclear capacity, only setting it back by a few months.
Russia has a strategic partnership treaty with Iran, even though it does not include a clause for mutual defense. Last week, a Russian navy corvette conducted joint maneuvers with Iranian ships in the Gulf of Oman, as reported by the Ministry of Defense in Moscow.
