Japanese constructor Honda has launched an interactive map of the „best European roads,” intended for owners of the Civic Type R sports model, to mark 30 years since its debut in Europe.
Out of over 120 spectacular roads, selected for their twists and landscapes, two routes from Romania have been included in this top list by Japanese specialists, as reported by Profit.
Transfăgărășan, among the reference roads
The famous Transfăgărășan remains among the most famous European roads, alongside Stelvio Pass in Italy or North Coast 500 in Scotland.
However, in the Honda guide, the route is depicted incompletely: it starts from Curtea de Argeș and ends after 62 kilometers, in the commune of Arefu, without fully crossing the mountain to Sibiu County, as it actually happens on the 120 kilometers lasting approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, as pointed out by the cited publication.
Rucăr-Bran Corridor, the big surprise
The absolute novelty is the inclusion for the first time in an international guide of the Rucăr–Bran Corridor, mentioned as "Bran Pass" (DN73).
The route starts from Pitești and passes through the localities of Mioveni, Stoenești, Rucăr, Dâmbovicioara, Moieciu, and Bran, reaching Brașov.
Honda then extends it on DN E60 through Bogata Pass, to Homorod, even continuing on a partially unpaved county road, reaching the village of Almas in Harghita. In total, the route is 217 km long and takes over 4 hours to complete.
Spectacular roads from 25 countries
The Honda Dream Drives map brings together routes from 25 countries, from northern Scotland to southern Spain, passing through coastal areas or winding mountain roads. Among them are routes from Hungary, through the volcanic landscape of the Káli-medence region, or the mountain roads around the town of Pianezze in Italy.
The roads were selected by automotive experts, as well as driving enthusiasts and Civic Type R fans. "Creating a unique, interactive map based on this specially commissioned and unprecedented collection of roads is the perfect way to launch the Civic Type R in Europe. Being the pinnacle of performance and maneuverability for Honda in recent history, these truly come to life when driven for fun," said Nik Pearson, General Manager of Corporate Communication at Honda Motor Europe.
