The leadership of the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) has initiated internal checks following suspicions of integrity issues among employees. The inspections target possible discrepancies in stocks of confiscated or seized goods.
The control comes amidst the digitalization process of asset valorization, following the launch of the eAuctionsANAF platform, and initial checks indicate differences between the written records and the on-site situation.
Checks following "discrepancies" in stocks
ANAF announces that the checks were initiated following internal reports and preliminary verifications that indicated possible non-compliant behaviors within the institution.
"In practice, it is about aligning the stocks of confiscated/seized goods factually with the written situation (...) for their transparency in view of their valorization on the platform," the institution conveyed, cited by News.ro.
The authority specifies that if major and unjustified differences are discovered, integrity checks will be initiated, following legal procedures.
Serious case: hundreds of missing cars
The issues are not just theoretical. According to Profit.ro, the verifications have revealed concrete situations where goods listed in ANAF's records can no longer be identified in warehouses.
The most serious case concerns approximately 200 cars on which a seizure had been imposed, but which are now untraceable.
From initial information, in some cases, formalities were not completed by the Tax Office's employees, and the goods were subsequently alienated by debtors.
The ANAF leadership has instructed all territorial structures to clarify the situations in the coming weeks, before any unresolved cases are forwarded to the Integrity Directorate.
Digitalization brings old problems to the surface
The checks come in the context of the launch of the eAuctionsANAF platform, which should make the valorization of seized goods more transparent.
The public interest was huge: the platform recorded millions of accesses in the first hours and days after its launch.
At the same time, however, the process of inventorying and uploading goods proved to be challenging. Although ANAF has over 60,000 types of goods that could be valorized, only a few hundred were listed at the beginning.
ANAF Chief: Any deviation will be sanctioned
The President of ANAF, Adrian Nica, warns that the institution will react firmly if the suspicions are confirmed.
"Any inappropriate behavior or behavior that contravenes legal and ethical norms at the ANAF level will be severely sanctioned. If the suspicions are confirmed, we will take all necessary measures, firmly and transparently," he stated.
