Nicușor Dan rules out early elections, backs government: the last thing we need is instability (video)

President Nicușor Dan rejects the scenario of early elections, even if tensions within the governing coalition were to escalate. The head of state warns that such a decision would bring about a prolonged period of political instability, in an already complicated moment.

When asked about the possibility of early elections in case of a rupture within the coalition, Nicușor Dan was categorical: „I exclude it. Theoretically, many things can happen. Given the context we are going through, it is the last thing we should consider – a long period of instability.”

Changing the Prime Minister, unlikely before the scheduled rotation

The President also expressed reservations about a possible change of prime minister before next year's scheduled rotation, suggesting that the current political balance should be maintained.

"We are in a better situation now than we were this morning. We need to see the bright side," said Nicușor Dan, referring to the recent disputes within the coalition regarding the budget.

He emphasized that the stability of the government depends on parliamentary support: "The prime minister's support comes from the parliamentary majority, and I hope this support will continue for a long time to come."

The coalition functions, even though decisions come slowly

In his assessment, the current coalition remains functional, even though the decision-making process is often slow and tense.

"We would all like decisions to be made more quickly, for public noise to be lower, but beyond all these drawbacks, on normative decisions such as the budget law, the administrative law, we see that, in a longer time than we would like, consensus is reached," the president also said.

The statements were made in Brussels, after the European Council meeting, against the backdrop of internal disputes within the governing coalition regarding the budget and economic direction.
