A woman from the American state of Washington had been feeding raccoons that came into her yard for several years. Until one day, when over 100 animals invaded her property.
For 35 years, a woman from Poulsbo, Washington, fed the raccoons that visited her yard, convinced that these animals were harmless. However, she recently found herself surrounded by approximately 100 raccoons demanding food, as reported by The Guardian.
Scared that they could become aggressive, the woman locked herself in the house and called the police, stating that they were in the yard "day and night" after the raccoon population exploded six weeks ago.
The police were astonished when they arrived at the scene. "They were shocked. They had never seen so many raccoons in one place before," said Kevin McCarty, a spokesperson for the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office, to 9News TV station.
"Somehow, the word got out in raccoon territory, and they came to her house expecting a meal," he added.
Neighbors were not pleased with the invasion of animals that can be threatening and are often dubbed "trash bandits" due to the dark fur color around their eyes, making them look like masked thieves.
Raccoons are also called "trash pandas" because they tend to jump into garbage cans in search of food scraps.
