The British press reacted after Simona Halep (32 years old) spoke for the first time about the doping case involving Jannik Sinner (1 ATP) and complained that she and Sinner were treated differently.
Journalists from Express highlighted Simona’s demand that all doping cases be judged in the same way by the ITIA (International Tennis Integrity Agency). Our athlete received a four-year suspension after testing positive for roxadustat.
Jannik Sinner was absolved of any guilt or intent after failing two anti-doping tests for the banned substance clostebol in March, and Simona Halep requested that all athletes be treated with the same yardstick, after the Italian quickly received a verdict from the ITIA.
"Simona Halep expressed her opinion on the case of Jannik Sinner, in which the Italian was "cleared" of two failed anti-doping tests for the banned substance clostebol in March. (…) Former world number one, Halep wants to see that all tennis players are treated with the same yardstick when it comes to doping," the source cited wrote.
Additionally, Express reported that Simona's doping case was "more complicated" and highlighted the reason why Sinner received a verdict from the ITIA more quickly in his case.
"However, while both Halep and Sinner claimed that their positive tests were the result of contamination, the Romanian's case was likely more complicated. Sinner's team immediately identified the source of contamination as soon as they were informed about the positive tests," noted the British from Express.
