Simona Halep (32 years old) made a statement full of sincerity regarding her comeback to tennis.
In an interview recently given to We Are Tennis, Simona revealed that she did not expect it to be so difficult to return to a good level in the WTA circuit after the suspension for doping.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced Simona Halep's doping penalty and allowed her to return to the court, but our athlete has only played two official matches in 2024. Halep is dealing with a knee injury.
"Now I see that it is very difficult to recover the time I lost. (...) It was very tough what I went through, I fought with everything, I still fight, but I did not expect the comeback to be so hard! (...)
"I try to react in the best way, to be strong. I am convinced that life still has good things to offer me. I believe in good," stated Simona Halep, quoted by the website puntodebreak.com.
Recently, Simona stated that her medical issues are more serious than initially thought and that her return is postponed.
Simona also mentioned that she does not know when she will be able to play tennis again, but she hopes to return.
Simona played her first match after the comeback in March, at Miami, where she was eliminated in the 1st round by Paula Badosa.
She then had to retire in the first round of the Trophee Clarins due to medical problems.
