Just a few hours before the start of the most anticipated football event of the year, the FIFA World Cup final, FIFA made a decision that is at least controversial.
The world football governing body, after opening an investigation a few days ago because South Americans displayed a political message after the semifinal with England, decided that the white and sky blue supporters have the right to express such opinions.
It was about several banners clearly stating: "The Falklands are Argentine", referring to that war fought in the 80s between England and Argentina for, as they are now called, the Falkland Islands.
But this didn't only happen on the field. Giovani Lo Celso took a banner from the stands that read in capital letters: "The Falklands are Argentine", and then carried this banner with his teammates on the field in Argentine joy.
In that year 1982, that territory was a reason for war between the two parties, resulting in approximately 1000 deaths, of which 650 were Argentinians.
According to Sky Sports, the Argentinians have received FIFA's approval to spread this message, in the stands or on the field, in case of general joy. The head of the task force, Andrew Giuliani, stated that the Argentine players "have the right to express their opinions".
It is important to mention that this FIFA decision could set an extremely dangerous precedent after the end of the World Cup.
