The results of the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova show that Maia Sandu’s Party (PAS) has achieved a clear victory. However, Moscow sees a different outcome.
Maia Sandu’s Party (PAS) has scored a crushing victory in the elections in the Republic of Moldova, according to official results. The pro-Russian coalition parties have not even half of the total number of votes obtained by PAS.

However, the Russian state media presents a diametrically opposite situation, stating that opposition parties in the Republic of Moldova are leading in the parliamentary elections. The governing party received 44.13% of the votes, while opposition parties received 49.54% of the votes, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS.
According to the cited source, opposition parties in the Republic of Moldova, including the Patriotic Block supporting the restoration of ties with Russia, have surpassed the Action and Solidarity Party founded by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, according to the Central Electoral Commission, following the processing of 100% of the domestic ballots.
TASS reports that the governing party obtained 44.13% of the votes. In contrast, the Patriotic Block received 28.25%, the pro-European Alternatives block - 9.22%, Our Party - 6.35%, and Home Democracy - 5.72%.
Maia Sandu's Party managed to achieve a better result in the polling stations abroad, many of which were opened in the West. After counting 98.55% of the ballots from all polling stations, PAS received 49.71% of the votes in the diaspora, while the opposition received 44.38% of the votes with 98.55%, as reported by the Russian agency.
The leaders of the Patriotic Block claimed the opposition's victory in the Moldovan elections and organized a rally near the Central Electoral Commission building, demanding to avoid any falsifications during the vote count, as reported by a TASS correspondent.
Kremlin's First Reaction After the Elections
The Kremlin accused the authorities in the Republic of Moldova on Monday of preventing hundreds of thousands of Moldovans living in Russia from voting in the parliamentary elections, providing only two polling stations for the large diaspora, as reported by Reuters and EFE.
"From what we see and know, we can confirm that hundreds of thousands of Moldovans were deprived of the opportunity to vote in Russia because only two polling stations were open for them," said the spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, in his daily press conference.
When asked if Moscow recognizes the results, Peskov noted that some political forces in the Republic of Moldova have reported violations of the law.
Dodon Does Not Recognize the Results
Igor Dodon, the leader of the Moldovan socialists and representative of the electoral alliance Patriotic Block, announced that he and his partners will not recognize the outcome of the Moldovan parliamentary elections until all challenges are analyzed.
Dodon addressed journalists on Monday at noon during the rally called to protest against the conduct of the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova. According to Agerpres, only 1,000 people participated in the demonstration in front of the Moldovan Parliament.
"There are some violations that we are analyzing until the end of the day," explained Igor Dodon.
All challenges have been filed with the CEC (Central Electoral Commission, ed.) according to the current procedures," he added.
"Until all challenges are analyzed, we will not recognize any elections," stated Igor Dodon, as quoted by Mediafax.
Igor Dodon is a Moldovan politician, best known for serving as the President of the Republic of Moldova between 2016 and 2020. Coming from the Communist Party, he became the leader of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova. Currently, he is the head of the pro-Russian opposition united in the Patriotic Block alliance.
