Social democrats are still considering whether to enter the government and whether to accept a government led by Ilie Bolojan. The leader of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, says that all options are on the table.
He specified that he hopes that by Wednesday evening an agreement will be reached regarding the economic measures, in order to then move on to discussions regarding the political aspect.
"Today I am meeting with the National Permanent Bureau with the team that has been almost a week at Cotroceni discussing various scenarios for fiscal measures. Discussions will be resumed this afternoon, as you know, we will try to reach an agreement today and tomorrow, so that afterwards we can enter what we have said, namely political negotiations," he said.

Asked if the PSD would be willing to provide the first prime minister or accept a government led by the liberal Ilie Bolojan, Grindeanu stated: "We have not entered the political zone because we have not surpassed the economic zone. I return to what I said, I believe, at the end of last week, and it still stands, even today, that for the PSD all options are possible. From providing a prime minister to going into opposition. (…)"
PSD does not agree with the tax on bank transactions
The leader of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, stated on Tuesday that the proposal to introduce a tax on bank transactions did not come from the party. "We did not propose it, and we do not agree with it," he emphasized.

Asked about what the PSD means by a solidarity tax, he explained: "At this moment, there are still a few countries that ultimately have this flat rate, we do not have it either, ultimately. I do not know if a solidarity tax is the best formula, as it sounds, but we must also think about how we protect people with low and middle incomes and try to find solutions to increase incomes.
Whether such a mode of progressive taxation will exist – we have not given up on this scenario, we will see if it will be accepted by the other government colleagues. I saw that we are not somehow misguided when we propose this. I had read, at the end of last week, that even international financial institutions recommend such a tax."
This does not mean that this scenario will be accepted. The same goes for pensions. Also, taxing and social security contributions for low and middle pensions, I believe, are unnecessary, and here almost everyone should agree and does agree."
Condition set by a former PSD minister
Former Minister of Labor, Marius Budăi, will suggest that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) should not enter the government if the proposed measure to introduce a health contribution for pensions over 2,500 lei is retained.
"If this proposal remains on the list compiled at Cotroceni, I will propose within the party that the PSD does not enter the government. The seniors of Romania do not ask for privileges. They only ask for respect and equal treatment. They ask that the state does not punish them after a lifetime of work. Social justice is not done by halves. It is done with fair, coherent decisions and with respect for all citizens, whether they are active or retired," Marius Budăi transmitted on Tuesday, on Facebook.
He points out that the proposed threshold for taxation, 2,500 lei, is below the average pension value, which is 2,813 lei.
