The first month of autumn doesn’t come with a sudden cooling. September will start with temperatures above normal for this time of year in most parts of the country, and warmer weather than usual for the beginning of autumn will persist in the first three weeks.
At the same time, rainfall will be scarce in the first half of the month, according to the forecast for the next four weeks, published by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM).
Only towards the end of September will temperatures approach the usual levels for this time of year in most parts of the country.
1–7 September: Warm and few showers
The beginning of the month brings higher temperatures than normal in most regions. The warmest, compared to the usual values for this period, will be in the western part of the country.
It will also be a drier week. It will rain less than usual in most of Romania, and the precipitation deficit will be more pronounced in the mountains.
7–14 September: Weather remains warmer than normal
There is no significant change foreseen in the second week either. Average temperatures will continue to be above normal in most parts of the country, with the highest deviations still in the west.
Moreover, rainfall will remain scarce. ANM estimates precipitation amounts below normal in all regions, especially in mountainous areas.
14–21 September: Warm throughout the country, but rain returns
In the third week of the month, temperatures will be above normal for mid-September throughout the country. Once again, western Romania will have the highest deviations from the norm.
However, the situation regarding rainfall is changing. After two drier weeks, precipitation amounts are expected to return to normal values for this period in all regions.
21–28 September: Autumn begins to normalize
The last week analyzed by meteorologists brings a closer approximation to the usual weather for the end of September.
In the west and center, it will remain slightly warmer than normal, while in the rest of the country, average temperatures will generally be typical for the period.
And rainfall will return to normal, without significant deviations estimated at the national level for now.
