The Norwegian committee that awards the Nobel Peace Prize concluded its deliberations on Monday, a few days before Israel and Hamas announced a ceasefire and the release of hostages, negotiated under the pressure of American President Donald Trump.
The Nobel Institute confirmed on Thursday that no further meetings are scheduled until the official announcement on Friday at 11:00, meaning that the choice of the 2025 laureate had already been made, regardless of the latest developments in the Middle East.
Donald Trump openly pursues the Nobel Peace Prize, reports Le Figaro.
Israel and the Islamist movement agreed on a ceasefire in Gaza on Thursday and the release of hostages, a significant step towards ending the two years of devastating war in the Palestinian territory. "The last meeting of the Nobel committee took place on Monday," said Erik Aasheim, the spokesperson for the Nobel Institute in Norway, to AFP.
Comprising five members, the Nobel Committee usually makes its decision a few days or even weeks before the official announcement and meets for the last time in the final stage before the announcement to finalize its conclusions. "The final details were sorted out on Monday, but the Nobel Committee's decision is never disclosed," added Erik Aasheim. There is no new committee meeting scheduled before the revelation of the laureate's name on Friday at 11:00, he specified.
"There will be a laureate this year," he said, while some experts speculate on the possibility that due to the deteriorating geopolitical situation, the Nobel Committee representatives may refrain from awarding the prize.
Claiming a role in resolving multiple conflicts, Donald Trump has been repeating since his return to the White House in January that he "deserves" the Nobel Prize. Not awarding it would be an "insult" to the United States, he recently declared. The agreement between Israel and Hamas "has absolutely no consequence" on the choice of the 2025 laureate, as "the Nobel committee has already made the decision," said historian Asle Sveen, a Nobel Prize specialist, to AFP.
"Trump will not win the prize this year. I am 100% sure of that," he said, emphasizing that the American president "gave a free hand" to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to bomb Gaza and provided significant military assistance to the Israeli army.
This year, 338 individuals and organizations have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, which in 2024 was awarded to the Nihon Hidankyo group, consisting of survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings who advocate against nuclear weapons.
So far, the following have been awarded:
- The Nobel Prize in Physics 2025 awarded to a trio of researchers for revolutionary discoveries in quantum mechanics

- The Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2025 was won by three researchers. What discovery did they make
