An important milestone was reached in Brașov at the Carfil factory’s shooting range: demonstrations with ammunition-carrying drones ended successfully – the devices transported an explosive payload and released the projectile at the designated point.
Carfil Factory, a subsidiary of the National Company Romarm collaborating with the Americans from Periscope Aviation, is set to produce six models of drones for the army. The initial plan envisioned two drones produced by the end of the year, but delays occurred.
### Prototypes Cuda and Sirin
The first two prototypes manufactured in the country – Cuda and Sirin – have already arrived in Brașov and are expected to go into production. Additionally, in the coming weeks, the third prototype, Stingray, a maritime tactical drone for surveillance, reconnaissance, and transport, is expected.
„We wanted to have a Romanian drone. Not to be dependent on someone else. Throughout their development, various requests emerged from the battlefields to be equipped with better sensors, more special devices, jamming systems, and so on,” stated Mircea Tanțău, General Director of Carfil SA, quoted by News.ro.
Also, next week, American specialists are expected to come to Brașov to provide technical support. „The Americans and their instructors are coming to Carfil, and we will start joint training for the Cuda and Sirin drone pilots,” said Mircea Tanțău, General Director of Carfil.
By the end of the year, at least 10 drones of each type are expected to be manufactured. „We have agreed with the American specialists that if we cannot acquire components for 25 sets of each, at least we can assemble 10 of each set,” added Mircea Tanțău.

### Technical Specifications of Cuda and Sirin
The two types of drones will serve both surveillance and attack purposes. The ammunition-carrying one can transport up to 15 kilograms of ammunition.
**Sirin**:
– Payload capacity: 14.5–15 kg.
– Maximum altitude: up to 5,000 m.
– Flight autonomy: approximately 36 minutes.
– Communication: ground-to-air range up to 100 km and air-to-air up to 200 km.
– Can also be used for maritime flights – an environment with strong winds and corrosive air where not all drones can operate.
**Cuda**:
– Payload capacity: normally 1.5 kg for sensors and equipment.
– Maximum altitude: up to 4,000 m.
– Autonomy: between 26 and 30 minutes, depending on takeoff weight and weather conditions.
– Communication: ground-to-air range up to 50 km and air-to-air up to 200 km.
### Training to NATO Standards
According to TechRider, pilot training will also take place in Brașov, at a training center developed in collaboration with the French armed forces. There is an advanced training simulator transmitted by the French government to the Romanian army. It includes all real combat scenarios. About 150 military pilots can be trained annually at the center, according to NATO standards.
„In Ukraine, there are over 400 types of drones flying. An operator is required to use over 4-5 types of drones every day,” says Cristea Gabriel Rău, head of the training center.
Carfil is set to start production with these models and will participate in the tenders organized by the Romanian state.
