Greece is facing a new wave of extreme heat, which has led authorities to temporarily suspend outdoor work in several regions of the country.
The Ministry of Labor announced that, due to temperatures reaching up to 43 degrees Celsius and high thermal discomfort, outdoor work is prohibited on Tuesdays between 12:00 and 17:00.
The suspension of outdoor work mainly applies to construction sites, public works, ship repair areas, as well as delivery services in several regions, including Athens, and tourist destinations such as the Ionian Islands and Rhodes (southeast).
The heatwave, which started on Monday, is expected to last until Sunday, according to the country's meteorological service (EMY).
Temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius in Athens and Thessaloniki on Tuesday, with highs of 43 degrees Celsius expected in central Greece.
On Thursday, the capital could record a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, as stated by EMY.
