The National Audiovisual Council (CNA) from Romania has adopted an amendment to the Audiovisual Regulation Code that targets horoscope and numerology columns and shows. These programs will need to include a disclaimer stating that the information presented does not have a scientific basis.
„Audiovisual programs recommending behaviors inspired by astrology, horoscope, numerology, or similar topics must be flagged at the beginning of their broadcast with the disclaimer ‘The information in this program does not have a scientific basis,’ as stipulated by the new article proposed in this version by Mircea Toma, a CNA member, at the recommendation of the Ministry of Education.
The proposal passed with seven votes in favor and three against," writes Pagina de media.
One of those who opposed the measure is Georgică Severin. "I voted against because I believe it is an abusive measure. It contradicts the legislation established by the Labor Code, and we are exceeding our competencies. At the same time, we are entering into a personal war between professional categories," explained the CNA member.
Additionally, on Wednesday evening, CNA adopted other significant modifications to the Audiovisual Content Regulation Code following a ten-hour marathon meeting.
Thus, celebrities will no longer be allowed to appear in gambling advertisements on TV, radio, and online. This new provision will become mandatory within 90 days after the Audiovisual Code comes into force.
Furthermore, the rules for advertising dietary supplements have been tightened.
