Italian actress Claudia Cardinale passed away on Tuesday evening at the age of 87.
Claudia Cardinale, a legend of the 1960s cinema, passed away „surrounded by her children” in Nemours, near Paris, where she lived, her agent announced, as reported by Corriere della Sera.
Born in Tunis on April 15, 1938, to Sicilian parents who had emigrated to North Africa, Claudia Cardinale was much more than an icon of Italian cinema. Her career began almost by chance: she won a beauty contest in Tunis and was invited to the Venice Film Festival.
The actress worked with the most important directors, including Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini, Richard Brooks, Henri Verneuil, and Sergio Leone.
"She leaves us the legacy of a free and inspired woman, both in her personal and artistic career," her agent, Laurent Savry, stated.
