Romania's 2026 high school admissions: Bucharest dominates the rankings, with the highest cutoff at 9.70

The Ministry of Education has published on Wednesday the computerized allocation results for high school, and the official ranking of specializations shows that this year, the most sought-after ones are Mathematics-Informatics and Natural Sciences in the major national colleges.

The highest final admission grade is 9.70, slightly below last year’s record by over a tenth.

Bucharest occupies almost entirely the Top 10

According to the ranking published by the Ministry of Education on the official platform admitere.edu.ro, the top two specializations in the country are Mathematics-Informatics at the "Sfântul Sava" National College and "Gheorghe Lazăr" National College, both with a final admission grade of 9.70.

The Top 10 continues almost exclusively with high schools from the capital:

2. "Gheorghe Lazăr" National College - Mathematics-Informatics - 9.70
3. "Spiru Haret" National College - Mathematics-Informatics - 9.67
4. "Gheorghe Lazăr" National College - Natural Sciences - 9.67
5. "Sfântul Sava" National College - Natural Sciences - 9.62
6. "Spiru Haret" National College - Mathematics-Informatics - 9.62
7. "Gheorghe Lazăr" National College - Philology - 9.60
8. "Spiru Haret" National College - Natural Sciences - 9.57
9. "Gheorghe Lazăr" National College - Social Sciences - 9.57
10. "Mircea cel Bătrân" National College Constanța - Natural Sciences - 9.55

Mathematics dominates the ranking once again

Out of the top ten specializations, six are in Mathematics-Informatics, three are in Natural Sciences, and one is in Philology.

Among the top 50 specializations in the country, elite colleges consistently appear, such as:

• "Tudor Vianu" National College of Informatics Bucharest;
• "Matei Basarab" National College Bucharest;
• "Mircea cel Bătrân" National College Constanța;
• "Andrei Șaguna" National College Brașov;
• "Emil Racoviță" National College Cluj-Napoca;
• "Carmen Sylva" National Pedagogical College Timișoara;
• "Vasile Alecsandri" National College Galați;
• "Elena Cuza" National College Craiova;
• "Constantin Diaconovici Loga" National College Timișoara.

Admission grades have decreased compared to 2025

An outstanding detail is that the highest final admission grade this year is 9.70, whereas last year the top two specializations closed admissions with over 9.82.

The decline comes in the context where this year's National Evaluation results were weaker than in 2025, which reflected in the admission grades at the most sought-after high schools.

Almost all students have been allocated

The Ministry of Education announces that 119,484 students were computerized allocated, representing 99.89% of the 119,610 graduates who filled in options.

Out of these, 74,093 (62.01%) were admitted to their first choice. In total, students filled in 2,857,558 options, an average of 23.89 options per person, slightly higher than last year.

126 candidates remained unallocated, who will be able to participate in the second stage of admission. There are 33,668 places available for this stage.
