Nazare warns ahead of PSD-AUR no-confidence vote: Romania cannot afford to step back

Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, appeals for political stability and responsibility, two days before the vote on the motion of no confidence filed by PSD and AUR against the government led by Ilie Bolojan.

In a public message, he warns that political instability risks directly affecting the economy and the standard of living.

"Beyond heated debates, Romania needs first and foremost stability and continuity in making responsible decisions for development, protecting people's incomes, and maintaining macroeconomic balances," the minister stated.

"We cannot afford political experiments"

Nazare emphasizes that the current international context is "extremely volatile" and that Romania cannot afford abrupt changes in direction.

He insists that political decisions in this period must be guided by pragmatism, not emotion: "We cannot afford political experiments in an extremely volatile international context."

The minister believes that the stakes of the vote on the motion are not strictly political, but related to the country's economic direction and the trust of external partners.

What Romania risks in case of instability

The Finance Minister warns that a potential change in government could have immediate economic consequences.

"Blocking all these projects and major development targets. Delaying reforms. Losing investors' trust. We go back to where we started, despite a major effort felt by the entire population," Nazare wrote.

According to him, signs of instability have already begun to appear: an increase in the exchange rate and the state's borrowing costs.

Direct effects: higher rates and prices

The minister explains how political turbulence quickly translates into the economy and, implicitly, into people's daily lives.

"The interest rates at which Romania borrows have risen. All affect us through higher loan rates, higher prices, and additional pressure on families' and companies' budgets," he stated.

He adds that "any increase in the state's borrowing costs is transmitted throughout the economy, from banks to companies, and ultimately to each of us."

Bolojan's governance balance, invoked as an argument

In support of his appeal, Nazare lists a series of results attributed to the current Executive in the 10 months of its mandate.

These include economic stability, reduction of the budget deficit, maintaining the country's rating, and avoiding the suspension of European funds. The minister also talks about accelerating public investments, progress in the PNRR, and strengthening Romania's external credibility.

"We are going through the most extensive period of public investments in recent decades," the minister states, linking these developments to concrete projects - highways, hospitals, energy infrastructure, and jobs.

Appeal to parliamentarians: "Choose what is right for the country"

Finally, the Finance Minister makes a direct appeal to parliamentarians in the context of the vote on the motion.

"Romania cannot afford steps backward," he asserts, adding that the decision must be a responsible one.

"In tense periods, responsibility means choosing what is right for the country, not what is politically convenient in the short term," Alexandru Nazare emphasized.
