Romanian Minister of Culture, Raluca Turcan, intends to initiate a dialogue with Louis Vuitton for the recognition of the heritage and cultural value of traditional Romanian pieces.
This statement comes in the context of the online community La Blouse roumaine‘s notification regarding Louis Vuitton fashion house’s use of a shirt inspired by the traditional one from Mărginimea Sibiului.
„In the context of public discussions, regarding Louis Vuitton company’s adoption of the specific Sibiu area shirt model with braids, I can tell you that I intend to engage in a dialogue with company representatives for the recognition of the heritage and cultural value of traditional Romanian pieces.
I will provide more details in the following days; however, I can tell you that the approach will be in the spirit of obtaining international recognition for the invaluable value of the Romanian tradition and turning this 'incident' into an opportunity to promote the traditional Romanian blouse at an international level," stated the Minister of Culture.
Raluca Turcan emphasized that "the Ministry of Culture's concern for protecting cultural and heritage identity elements is a top priority."
"Currently, we are examining the protection of geographical indications for artisanal and industrial products, as well as proposals for legislative acts aimed at providing a constant and continuous market for traditional products, by establishing a percentage of the fund allocated for the acquisition of products for protocol, by state institutions, dedicated to traditional products," highlighted the Minister of Culture.
The community La blouse roumaine requested support on Facebook for the "Give Credit" campaign centered around Louis Vuitton's use of the Romanian shirt in the new 2024 collection, without mentioning the origin.
"Dear communities from Mărginimea Sibiului, Oltenia under the mountain, Ţara Făgăraşului, Argeş, South and Central Transylvania, and any person, collector, artisan, and simple lover of the specific shirt and attire of Mărginimea Sibiului, preserved even in areas where people migrated from this region, please support us in the new 'Give Credit' campaign centered around Louis Vuitton's use of the Mărginime shirt in the new 2024 collection, without mentioning the origin and agreement of the cultural heritage keepers," specified the social media post.
