The National Bank of Bulgaria (BNB) has presented informative materials showcasing the design of the Bulgarian euro coins, which will enter circulation starting January 1, 2026.
The initiative is part of BNB’s broader public information campaign towards the adoption of the single European currency, as reported by Novinite.com.
The euro coins will feature Bulgarian motifs. Thus, the one euro coin will depict the image of St. John of Rila on the reverse side, while the rest of the coins will feature the image of the Madara Horseman.
The coins with the lowest denominations – 1, 2, and 5 euro cents, known as „stotinki” in Bulgarian – will retain the usual yellow hue, while the 10, 20, and 50 cent coins will be silver in color.
The detailed presentation includes descriptions of the weight, edge, metal alloy, and images on the common European face of each coin.
The sale of starter kits containing euro coins with the Bulgarian national emblem will begin on December 1, 2025. The sets will be available for purchase by both individuals and businesses. The price is set at 20 leva for individuals and 200 leva for legal entities.
Starter packs can be purchased from BNB cash centers, commercial banks, and, for individuals, from certain branches of the Bulgarian Post.
The starter kits are part of a broader process of initial loading and reloading with euro banknotes, euro coins, and related materials.
In parallel, BNB is organizing training courses for the recognition of euro banknotes and coins, in accordance with European Central Bank standards.
These sessions are organized for representatives of the Bulgarian Post, the Association of Banks in Bulgaria, the Association for Modern Commerce, and the National Association of Municipalities.
Selected participants are expected to become trainers themselves, ensuring that employees in institutions and businesses are well-prepared for the transition to the euro.
