Romașcanu announces that tomorrow there will be consultations with Iohannis and the prime minister will be nominated. Stănescu says that Ciolacu will lead the future Government

PSD spokesperson Lucian Romaşcanu stated that consultations will take place at Cotroceni on Sunday with President Klaus Iohannis, and there will be a nomination for a prime minister to form the government.

Romaşcanu believes that Marcel Ciolacu deserves to be prime minister, especially since, „When PSD is in government, the prime minister is appointed from the position of party president.”

"At this moment, it is premature to talk about a formal nomination because there are consultations tomorrow with the president, and the nomination will be made after the consultations. We have enough competence resources to have several options for prime minister.

From my perspective, (...) with all the achievements, with the numbers before and after Mr. Ciolacu handed over the mandate today, I believe he deserves to be prime minister. (...) Normally, when PSD is in government, the prime minister is appointed from the position of party president," he stated.

In turn, PSD Secretary General Paul Stănescu announced that Marcel Ciolacu will lead the future government.

"Yes, Marcel Ciolacu will remain prime minister," Stănescu said.

Without Deputy Prime Ministers

Lucian Romaşcanu also mentioned that the new Executive may not have deputy prime minister positions.

"I don't think this government will have deputy prime ministers. (...) from the discussions so far, I understand that there will be no deputy prime ministers. We will see how it will be outlined in the end," the social democrat said.

Regarding a possible freezing of pensions and salaries next year, he stated that it is a measure that the future Executive should consider taking.

"It is a measure that the new Government will have to take depending on the budgetary framework. I hope we don't reach this situation. (...) There is a draft of the train ordinance that always goes to the maximum. From there on, negotiations will be based on the figures we will have for next year's budget," Romaşcanu stated.

He specified that, according to custom, one ministerial portfolio should go to one party, and another to a different party.
