The appointment of Zinedine Zidane as the head coach of France is a done deal, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who announced on Instagram on Tuesday that the 54-year-old coach has signed a contract with Les Bleus until mid-2030, as reported by DPA.
Zidane has long been announced as the successor to Didier Deschamps, the 2018 World Cup champion with the French national team, from whom he parted ways at the end of this summer’s World Cup, where the French team finished fourth.
France's most important sports newspaper, L'Equipe, recently reported that the former World Cup and European champion will take over the reins of the French team.
So far, there has been no confirmation from the French Football Federation (FFF) regarding Zidane's appointment.
The former French international coached Real Madrid from 2016 to 2018 and then again from 2019 to 2021, winning three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles.
As a player, Zidane won trophies at the 1998 World Cup and EURO 2000, as well as the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2002.
In his last professional match, Zidane lost the 2006 World Cup final with the French national team against Italy, a match in which he was sent off for headbutting an opponent.
