The press in Ukraine reacted immediately after Romania’s victory, 3-0 at the European Championship, and bowed to the tricolors.
The Ukrainians showed no mercy to Sergey Rebrov’s players, but acknowledged that „the Romanians deserve praise.”
Journalists highlighted Lunin’s mistake at the first goal, Nicolae Stanciu’s superb goal in the 29th minute.
„It couldn’t have been worse. Ukraine, defeated by Romania in Munich. (…) We had ball control and positioned ourselves in front of Romania’s box, the opponent who defended with great strength and counterattacked.
In the 29th minute, the Ukrainian national team paid for too much dominance. (…) We pressed until the final whistle, we had desire, but the goals didn’t come,” writes sport.ua.
„Catastrophe! Let’s be honest, it’s hard to analyze something. We weren’t dangerous enough in the first minutes, although we were present in front of Romania’s box. (…) Lunin dealt us a blow. (…) The Romanians were tough and played ‘dirty’, but we didn’t give up and continued with positional attacks. (…)
Does anyone deserve to be mentioned after such a game? A rhetorical question. It was terrible, painful. The Romanians can only be praised,” writes ea-football.com.
Romania defeated Ukraine 3-0 in the opening match of Group E at EURO 2024, with goals scored by Nicolae Stanciu, Răzvan Marin, and Denis Drăguș.
